Fit the chains to the rear wheels when climbing hills because due to gravity, 70% of the whole vehicle weight is transferred to the rear. The additional grip of the chains will keep you mobile and steady. If you're going downhill, fit the chains to the front wheels, but if you're covering all conditions then chain- up all four wheels.
